Raissa Reyes, Venusborn

"Venusborn" is a short film inspired by the cinematography of Sofia Coppola, to explore themes of girlhood and delicate femininity from the lens of woemn of colour. The protagonist, Lacy, believes her beauty and attractiveness to men is her only leverage and power in the world; but by the end of the film she accepts her attraction to women, specifically her best friend, and breaks free from the mould of hyperfemininity she has conformed to.
