Weiyu Zhou, Perspectives
"Perspectives" is a short experimental film that explores the themes of social class and the wealth gap. The main characters of the film are two international students from different classes in China. The film uses the split-screen format to truly show the different situations they face in a foreign country in their day-to-day life. The differences between them are embodied in various aspects, such as diets, living environments, clothing, their choice of transportation, gestures, language, habits, families, etc. The audiovisual language of the short film retains Weiyu's ideas while incorporating techniques used in other films to explore the effects of social class and wealth inequality. The film closes with an open ending that breaks the fourth wall, aiming to let the audience start thinking for themselves about social class and wealth inequality.
